Employment Driving Permits

Explanation:

The Employment Drive Permit is available to driverís who have forfeited their regular driving privileges under one of the following:

To be eligible for the permit, the driver must be a Nebraska resident and have been issued a license (Provisional Operator's Permit holders are not eligible for the Employment Drive Permit).

The Employment Drive Permit can be used to drive from home to work and return, and strictly in reference to the terms of employment. (The permit cannot be used for shopping, probationary meetings, school, etc.) The issuance of such permit is based upon meeting all appropriate requirements and certification that the use of the vehicle is required as part of your employment.

Driverís revoked under the Nebraska Point System can obtain a downloadable copy of the Procedural Bulletin and Application for Employment Drive Permit for Point Revocations.

Driverís revoked for an Administrative License Revocation (ALR) can obtain a downloadable copy of the Procedural Bulletin and Application for Employment Drive Permit for ALR. The following rules apply to the Employment Driving Permit under the ALR:

  • The 90-day ALR with arrest date on or prior to 12/31/2011 - driver must be revoked for 30 days before permit can be issued
  • A subsequent ALR with an arrest date prior to 07/15/2010 - driver is eligible immediately for permit
  • The ALR-Refusal with an arrest date on or prior to 12/31/2011 (with no prior ALRís within 12 years) - driver must be revoked for 60 days before permit can be issued
  • A subsequent ALR with an arrest date on or after 07/15/2010 - driver is NOT eligible for permit
  • The ALR-Refusal with an arrest date on or prior to 12/31/2011 (with prior ALRís within 12 years) - driver is NOT eligible for permit
  • Any ALR with an arrest date of 01/01/2012 and after - driver is NOT eligible for permit
Any other suspension or revocation actions must be reinstated in order to be eligible for an Employment Driving Permit. Driver must have tested for and been issued a driver license (in any state) prior to being revoked in Nebraska.

Driverís who have been suspended for Violating a Support Order can obtain a downloadable copy of the Procedural Bulletin and Application for Employment Drive Permit for Support.

These forms can also be requested by phone, in person or through the mail.

Employment Drive Permit Suspension

Explanation:

Your Employment Drive Permit can be suspended for failure to take the Defensive Driving Course within 60 days of the authorization of the permit, for failure to maintain your SR-22 Certificate of Insurance and if there are any new suspensions or revocations placed on your record after the permit was issued.

 

Reinstatement Requirements:

1. If your permit was suspended for failure to take the Defensive Driving Course within 60 days Ė you must complete the eight (8) hour course and provide this office with a certificate of completion.

2. If your permit was suspended for failure to maintain your SR-22 Certificate of Insurance Ė you must have your insurance company submit a new filing. If you were also required to maintain the SR-22 for a prior suspension/revocation Ė you will need to pay a $50.00 reinstatement fee. Payment of the reinstatement fee needs to be in the form of a cashierís check, bank draft, money order made payable to the Department of Motor Vehicles. This office does not accept personal or business account checks. Once reinstated, you will receive a letter of clearance from this office.

3. If your permit was suspended because a new suspension or revocation was placed on your record Ė you will need to meet the reinstatement requirements for the new suspension or revocation.

Exceptions:

If the SR-22 Certificate of Insurance indicates you had insurance prior to the effective date of suspension, the reinstatement fee will not be required.

Employment Drive Permit Revocation

Explanation:

Your Employment Drive Permit will be revoked if you are issued a citation where points are assessed against you after the permit was issued.

 

Reinstatement Requirements:

This revocation is not eligible for reinstatement or issuance of any additional employment drive permit for that particular license revocation.
