Takata Air Bag Recall
On May 19, 2015, the United States Department of Transportation issued a safety notice indicating air bag manufacturer Takata has determined a defect exists in air bag inflators made by Takata and used by some automobile manufacturers in their vehicles. The defective inflators were made with a propellant which can degrade over time. That has led to ruptures believed to have played a part in six deaths worldwide.
As a result of this defect, Takata has agreed to a national recall of some frontal driver and passenger side air bag inflators.
There are approximately 19 million vehicles and 12 automobile manufactures affected by this recall.
